You can help your children create an edible nest filled with candy eggs at Easter time. Rice Krispies treats are perfect for designing a bird’s nest, and you will only need to make one change to the original recipe in order to achieve the nest look.
You will need the following items to make your Easter treat:
- 3 Tbsp. butter
- 1 large pot
- 1 wooden spatula
- 4 cups mini marshmallows
- ½ cup cocoa
- 6 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 can cooking spray
- 2 muffin pans
Follow these steps to make your Easter treat:
Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a large pot.
Once the butter has melted, you can add 4 cups of mini marshmallows. Continue to stir until all of the marshmallows have melted and blended in with the butter.
Add ½ cup of cocoa and stir until the marshmallow mixture has turned brown.
Remove from the heat and dump in 6 cups of Rice Krispies. Stir again until the Krispies are coated with the brown marshmallow mixture.
Coat several muffin pans with cooking spray and then place some of the Rice Krispies mixture inside the muffin sections. Press down in the center to make the final look of a bird’s nest. Set the pans aside so that the treats have time to cool and harden up a bit.
Remove each of the nest treats from the muffin pans, and place them on a decorative platter. Fill the nests with Easter eggs. You can use jelly beans, malt balls, chocolate eggs, or any candy that comes in an oval shape. Serve as your Easter dessert, or at your child’s school Easter party.
